I was there last week. There are three ways to get up to the wall. Walk (a very long and vertical climb...save your energy for the steps on the wall itself), cable car or chairlift. I took the chairlift. The slideway is under the chairlift and is only open when the weather is good. It was foggy and damp when I was there so the slideway was closed. I descended via the stairs, waste of time/energy. There is approx. 1km of walking (up and down the the Wall walkway) between the cable car and chairlift. Make sure you see the unrestored section of the wall beyond the chairlift. Wear good walking shoes (not flip flops).
