My passport expires 5 Nov 2013, I want to apply for 30day visa to travel Aug, do I need new passport

My international passport will expire on the 5th of November 2013 and I want to travel to China in August this year from the 7th to 14th for business. Will I require a new passport to apply or can I use my current passport since I will travel and come back before the expiration of my passport?
