Fuzimiao or Xinjiekou? which is more accessible to major historical and cultural attractions in Nanjing?

Will be visiting that city for a week in early September. Please advise wheather it is better to stay in Fuzimiao area or Xinjiekou for easy access by public transport to major cultural and historical attractions? Please advise 1 or 2 hotels (3* & 4*) close to underground stations in these two areas. Thank you
