About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

What options do I have (from Vietnam)?

I'm a US citizen currently in Vietnam, and Chinese visas are limited to 20 days for $200 USD if applying here! I want to go to China for a month, so are there travel agencies around SE Asia that can accept an application by mail and get me at least a 1-month one, regardless of my lack of residency status in that country?

Alternatively, could I get one in Hong Kong or Macau when I stop there for vacation first? According to the websites, they say you must have a residency card for a multiple-entry, but what about single-entry? Can visitors readily apply for that? Thanks!

Yes, you can apply for a single entry one in HK or Macau. It costs HK$200 for a single entry L type one.

Oh great! It's odd that you must be a HK resident to get a multiple, but not to get a single.
But this price seems too low for a US citizen - everywhere I have checked they are at least $150 USD now. Why is it so much lower here?

Hi, Owen is wrong, the fee for US citizen in HK is HK$1100 regardless of types. You can refer to the websire of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC in HK SAR.

On the website, it says "Applicants without HK resident status are required to submit their applications through the Chinese Embassy or consulate office around your resident country. "
That seems to say that foreign visitors without resident status cannot apply for it in HK. Owen, where are you getting your information?

Hi, as I know, it is possible for you to get a single entry and double entry in HK as non-residents. Also there is a travel agency in HK airport, which provide this service. Sorry, I have no reference about this.
