About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

STUDENT ACCEPTED TO A UNIVERSITY IN SHANGHAI?

hey, so i am a high school passout who has got into a university for bachelors (4 years course) in Shanghai, China.
i shall be getting JW202 and Invitation letter from my college, however, i need to know more about the temporary resident permit? do i get it only after i have landed in shanghai? or should i request my college for documents regarding same right now itself?
also, student X is for 30 days only, so, if i apply for it in June (have to report in college in August) will it be valid for month of august? as in, does X validity starts the day you get the it (like the tourist L)? or, what? how does the validity work?

Yes, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit within 30 days after arrival with your student X. 30 days is the duration allowed to stay in China, not the validity to be used for entry. Generally, it will be valid for 3 months started from issue date, so it is ok for you to apply in June.
