L Renewal in Shanghai without leaving

I've been living in Shanghai almost a year on a Z. I've since quit my job to study Mandarin and extended it to (L) for 30 days. Is it possible to renew the L once more for 30 days without leaving the country? I was told that it may be easier to get one if I show proof of intended exit (ie. plane ticket out of the country).

No, the L converted from a work Z can not be extended. You have to leave and apply for a new tourist L in HK if your need.
