Applying a Tourist visa in Thailand

I'm American and I'm in Thailand. I'd like to apply for a tourist visa to go to China. Is it possible? Is it better to do in bangkok or chiang mai? Thank you

Yes, you can. It's better to apply from the embassy in Bangkok other than the consulate in Chiang Mai.
