Weekend open time for Chengdu Panda Breeding and Researching Center

Will visit mid august 2013 and I'm wondering if it's open during saturdays and sundays, also how much does it cost for a hug?

Yes, it will open during your visiting.
The fare is around 1000RMB for a hug.

So reading the messages it seems that:
1) no reservation is needed
2) the price still varies between 1000-2000RMB.
Where does this price difference come from? I inquired at several hostels and they all quote 2000RMB.
How can I arrang it for 1000RMB, just by visiting the centre without an appointment?

If you have enough time, you may go to Bifengxia Gorge in Ya'an which is around 2 hours' driving from Chengdu City. Over there, they have different price for holding pandas. The lowest one is about CNY1, 000. But I seldomly go there, so I have no idea whether you have to reserve it first or not.
As to Chengdu Panda Base, I will make a reservation every time if someone in my group wants to hold pandas. There are some uncertain factors sometimes, I don't want to risk my luck.
