About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Ulaanbaatar - China - New Zealand ?

I am flying from Ulaanbaatar to New Zealand. However, my first flight arrives in Beijing, and then I have a connecting flight onto Shanghai 1.5 hours later (same airline China Airways). What do I need to do to transit in this case? I am there in transit for 10 hours tops.

You can apply for a stay permit after landing at the Beijing airport. Visa is not required for a transit with stopover less than 24 hours.

Thanks Peter

I've only got 1.5 hours between arriving and departing for Shanghai - long enough? And also, will China Airways be able to put my bags through to Shanghai (probably not as the Beijing - Shanghai flight is domestic, right?

Yes, it is ok with 1.5 hour stopover in Beijing, but you may need to pick up your luggage and check in again to shanghai.
