Can I apply for a student visa with multiple entry within 6 months of first entry?

I am a NZ citizen going on exchange in a university in China.

multiple entry within 6 months of first entry? generally, a student X is issued with a single entry and "000" as duration of stay. Because X holders need to apply for a residence permit after entry, which will be issued according to the study, and it can be used as multiple entries without limit on exit and entry.
