Joining spouse after wedding..

My fiance and I are both US citizens. I currently have a 90-day visitor L and my fiance is here working on a 2-year ex-pat assignment (has a resident's permit). We will be getting married in October and I will be joining him full-time here after the wedding. We are having a difficult time figuring out what we need to do (documentation-wise) as we have heard conflicting information from people.
1. Do I need to get a different type of visa prior to coming to China after the wedding?
2. Or, can we bring a copy of the marriage certificate and my current visitor L??
3. And/or, do we need to get the marriage certificate authenticated by the Consulate in the US prior to departure??

Please help as this is all so confusing :(

May I know is your current 90 day visitor a single entry? if yes, you need to apply for a new L after wedding in US. Or apply for a dependent Z directly from the consulate accompanying your his Z. Marriage certificate is not required to be authenticated.

Lynn, Thanks for the quick response. I have a multiple entry, which is good for 1 year. If I'm reading your response correct, I need to apply for a Z with the consulate back in the states after the wedding before coming to China?? Thanks!!

If you have 1 year multiple entry, you can re-enter first, then apply for extension before it expires.

BTW, if you want to take up job here, you have to apply for a new Z.
