i want to go to xinjiang from shandong.

Question

I want it to be a three day trip(to and back, max) and I want to go the city in XJ which is nearest to Jinan(where I am currently in). If possible, I would liek to know which trains I can take and how many hours it will be, as well as the prices. I am hoping to go during the end of april/start of may holidays.

To my experience, Urumqi is suggested. But there is only one train running between Jinan and Urumqi each day and the travel duration shall be around 49 hours. It would be a suferring journey. Anyway, the fare is CNY316 for a hard seat, CNY562-605 for a hard sleeper and CNY917-959 for a soft sleeper. As I know, there are direct planes between and the travel duration is around 4.5h.

Thankyou so much for the quick reply! 49 hours and 600+ yuan O__O. Wow.How much would a plan ticket be around? Is it safe to go alone? Also, I will be okay if I can speak mandarin right?

Please do not worry. It is safe to travel there alone. If you can speak Mandarin, it will be perfect.For the flights, it is hard to tell you the exact price, because you may get a discount if you book in advance. As far as I know, Eastern Airlines, Shandong Airlines and Southern airlines have flights to reach Urumqi, so I suggest you to have a look on their official website.
