multiple tickets for 72 hours free transit in beijing

Hi,Do the tickets have to be in the same reservation to be eligible for the 72h transit? Or can they be a round trip to Beijing from USA and another round trip from Beijing to Hong Kong that would make the return trip Hong Kong/ Beijing/ USA but not on the same reservation?Thank you

Tickets in different reservation is ok for this 72 hr free transit. But make sure show them your boarding pass from USA to Beijing and the ticket to Hong Kong (leaving within 72 hours) for transit permit application on arrival.
