Domestic transfer

I am travelling on a New Zealand passport and would like to know if it's possible to transfer through China via a domestic flight without a visa:
London to Beijing - 4 hour transit in airport
Beijing to Xian with China Eastern - 3 hour transit in airport
Xian to Malaysia with Cathay/Dragonair
If this is Okay how do I collect my luggage in Beijing to transfer to the domestic flight without going through immigration?

Hi Sam, if your transit via two airports in mainland is less than 24 hours, you can apply for a stay permit after arrival at Beijing airport. With the stay permit you can collect your luggage.
