About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hour free transit through Beijing and Xian to HK

I have a Finnair flight arriving in Beijing at 6:55am on 17th June. I then have a domestic flight from Beijing to Xian at 7:45am on 19th June to transit only in Xian airport connecting same day at 15:55 to a Dragonair flight to Hong Kong. Can I complete exit immigration formalities in Beijing before boarding the domestic transit flight to Xian to connect with my international flight to Hong Kong and therefore be eligible for the 72 hour free transit? I have e-tickets as proof of my onward domestic and international flights.

No, this 72 hour transit is available only in Beijing Or Shanghai. You need to apply for a transit or tourist visa in advance for this trip.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried to get a Chinese tourist visa in Rome and London however as I am Australian both locations advised that I have to get it in my home country as I'm flying back to Australia via Beijing it is impossible for me to get it. I currently have a ticket from Helsinki to Beijing then another ticket Xian to HK. Am I able to transit in Beijing airport (less than 24 hours) then go on a domestic flight to Xian, again transit in the airport for less than 24 hours, and pick up my HK flight in Xian

Sorry, you are only eligible to fly directly from Beijing to HK. If you have to take domestic flight to Xian, visa is required.
