Extra Entry for my travel

Hi,
i'm from australia and currently in shanghai on the first entry of a double entry visa. We are heading down to hong kong and then to Kunming which will use the second entry. However, we would like to head up to Dongguan to visit friends while we are in hong kong, but this will use up our second entry. Do you know if it is possible to apply for a new double entry while we are in hong kong so that we can head up to dongguan and then back to hong kong and then off to kunming?
I am happy for it to cancel out my old one and also am not worried about costs.
thanks :)

Yes, you can apply for a new one in HK. It is also ok for you to apply later after you used the two entries up.

BTW, here you should note that there is possibility to be given a single entry in HK as the officers have the final say to the application.
