About:Lhasa Travel

Hi there - I am planning to travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa in October.

What is the weather like and what clothing to bring? Do you have metro train lines in the city or travel by bus or taxis only? Is it save to walk in the streets in the city? What other places of interests other than monastries? Will be there about 8-10 days. Are there reliable local tours that foreigners can tag onto without having to worry about being mugged?

Well, it can be cool, with short rainfall. It is relatively suitable for traveling. During Oct. the average temperature can be around 9C (48F). Because of the big temperature gap between the daytime and nighttime, it is suggested to make sure bring long johns, wool sweaters, wool trousers and wadded jackets.

No, there is no MTR there. The main commuter way is bus and taxi. Don't worry! It can be very convenient.

Generally, it is safe enough to walk along the streets.

Except the monastries, you can also go and visit Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Tibet Museum and Yangpachen.

For the tours, I think you need to join one before you go instead of a joining one when you arrive there. Last year, I planed to go, but I was told that foreigners alone are not allowed to go, so I feel disappointed. I think you should comfirm the correct information.

Thanks Bella for the info. I can see Tibet Museum on Lhasa city map. But can you please tell me what to expect from Yangpachen? I will be travelling in a group of more than 5 people, so I will be allowed into Tibet. Well, sounds like it is better for me to pack my winter clothing. Better be comfortable than putting up with the cold temperature.
