Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Transit Visa

Hi... I'll be travelling from Philippines back to UK and has 12 hours lay over in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. I am planning to stay in the hotel outside the airport just to sleep before my flight in the morning at 9am. Do I need a visa if I'll leave the airport even just to stay overnight in the hotel nearby? I do hold a UK passport.
