please can you tell me if children pay for a seat on train...the high speed train from shenzhen to beijing in particular. if they do pay, what kind of fare is expected.

Kids lower than 120cm could take train for free, however, who will have to share the seat with his/her parent. Children lower than 150cm could buy child ticket with seat. From Shenzhen to Beijing G train, the price for child is half of the adults' price.

I booked a children ticket in my journey. Yes, there isn't an option in the website. You should write the note that includes you children's actual height and other requirements in the remark column when you are booking.
