About:China Embassy in Thailand

Touring Thailand. Can I get a Chinese Visa?

I was under the impression that someone touring through Thailand could get a Chinese visa. However, after looking through past Q & A, someone said you must be a Thai citizen to apply for a Chinese visa in Thailand. This doesn't seem accurate to me. Does anyone know? If I am are a visitor in Thailand, must I bring any additional paperwork to the consular office other than what's specified online?

Hi, because of Chinese Embassy restrictions, travel agents in Bangkok are currently only allowed to apply for Thai passport holders and foreign residents holding work permits or retirement visas. But if you have valid Thai visa, you can try to apply in person from the embassy.

Hi Chris - Thank you so much for your help! I had no idea a Thai visa would be required for me to get a Chinese visa. It's remarkable how I can get more assistance from you in one e-mail than I have gotten from the embassy (whom I have been calling/e-mailing for 2 months). Thanks again.

We have often obtained Chinese visas in Bangkok. Many of the travel agencies offer this service and it a lot easier and cheaper than the UK. All we have needed is our passport, 2 photos and the fee !!

Thanks Helen,

Did you do it recently? Did you have a Thai visa at the time you applied for a Chinese visa? It seems there may be a new rule that you must have a Thai visa (even though not necessary to visit Thailand) to get a Chinese visa issued. I know very little about this and am trying to gather more information.
