Here is something I know:
1. During the rule of Han Wudi, he appointed Zhang Qian to take the Silk Road, which made great contributions to advertsing and exchange Chinese culture. Specific information can be found here:

2. Starting to establish Yuefu, which was a government office for collecting folk songs and ballads.
3. Development in religion. Buddhism was introduced into China then and the present White Horse Buddhist Temple (Baima Temple) constructed then became the first Buddhist temple in China. At the sametime, Taoism was established during that time.
