The Chinese history material documents show that the dynasty had five capital cities and four of them are in Henan Province. At the very beginning of the dynasty, the capital was Bo (present Shangqiu city of Henan). Later, it was Yin (Present Anyang city of Henan), which is more well-known.16

Wherever the king dwelled, there was the capital. As there had been many rebellions from its people and incursions from neighboring tribes during the Shang Dynasty, the king had to adjust his capital and administrative center according to the military needs. However, the constant cultural and religious center remained the pre-dynastic captial of Shang from which it drew it's dynastic name.6
