Can I apply for Chinese visa in Japan with Thai temporary passport?

Hi,

I'm a graduate student in Japan and I will go back to Thailand at the end of this month after my graduation ceremony. However, my passport will be expired in May 2013. So the Thai consulate suggests me to make a temporary passport.
I would like to stopover at Beijing for 4 days with my family on the way back to Thailand.
I wonder can I apply for a tourist visa with the temporary passport?
This temporary passport will be expired in March 2014.

It is ok for you to apply Chinese visa with a temporary passport.
