Travelers visa

I was told by a friend to apply for a 6 month travelers visa, with no letter of invitation needed, is this correct?

She said, visit as travelers, not visiters.

Hi, you mean tourist visa L to China, right. If you visit for tourism purpose, invitation letter is not mandatory, you can provide return tickets and hotel reservations instead. But you should keep in mind that the tourist L is usually 30 days, if you need to stay in China for 6 months, you may need to apply for a multiple entry L.
