China Tourist Visa (L)

Hi,i studied one year in china at Guangzhou civil aviation college .now my class mates are asking me to come to china for visit.so do i need any invitation form some one?can i get visa for visit?im not planing to stay in a hotel.planing to stay at one of my friends home.so can i apply for it?
