Hi, you need to arrange a permit and China drive license if you want to travel by your car. You can contact the travel agency for more information.

The travel agency asks us to ask you all.
They say they currently do not have over land trips.

We need a chinese driving license? But we are not chinese citizens? How do we get a driving license?
What permit is required? Car import permit?

I mean to change your license to a Chinese one.

Yes, the permit should be got in advance, but through a travel agency. So you may try to search for another agency who provide over land tours.

But only AA does it. We want to have our own jalan-jalan.

So how to convert? Go to china and take a test? Does China accept International driver license?

China does not accept International driver license. You need to get a Chinese translation of ternational license issued by local foreign affairs and then apply from their traffic police station for a Chinese one. I am not sure if a test is required. It is a bit complex procedure, so you'd better contact a travel agency for details.
