New Visa Regulations for 2013

I understand there are some new restrictions on visa application starting this year and would appreciate clarifications.

Is it true that I will need to show evidence of sufficient bank balance to extend the tourist visa? If so, what is the amount required? and do I need to have a deposit at a Chinese bank or would record of an overseas bank would do?

Yes, it is true. The bank balance should be at least RMB 20,000 for an extension of one month. So far as I know, a deposit at a Chinese bank is required.
