Getting Harbin from Shenyang and Recommended Events

I am a foreigner coming from Shenyang. I and a friend would like to go for a day next week (some time between the 19th and 21st). Since we can only go for a day, which events/displays should we make sure we see? What is the best way to get to them? We do not speak fluent Chinese, but are able to get around by ourselves for the most part. Thank you!
