About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Question on the smaller outlying airports in regards to this visa-free transit in Beijing

My trip this summer is to North Korea/Nepal/South Korea and I will fly to BJ and remain there for less than 24 hours while I wait (outside the airport) to fly to North Korea and then return 11 days later. I know this portion is fine for the visa-free transit, however I have concerns on my other portions. After arriving back in BJ from NK, I will stay at the airport for 24hrs while I wait to board a plane to Nepal. This flight from Beijing connects in Kunming for about 5hrs where I will not leave airport, does this visa-free travel also apply to airports such as Kunming? Also, on way back to The States, I will fly from Seoul, South Korea to Los Angeles and there is layover in China at Baiyun for about 4hrs where I will again not leave the airport. Just wondering if so many stops in China with no visa will be a problem? It would appear all would be okay but I don't want to assume anything. **I am a U.S. citizen and will have all the appropriate visa documentation for NK/Nepal, etc.

The visa free does not apply to Kunming airport. This policy only applies in Beijing and Shanghai.
In China airport, if you make a international transfer and stay in the airport no more then 24 hours, the visa is not needed.
Hope my answer is useful for you.

Yes your answer was very helpful! I really wasn't sure of the policy with these smaller airports but in both cases I will spend less than 24hrs and will not be leaving the airport so I appreciate the response and the information to backup my assumption. Thank you so much!
