Phone and wi-fi

Hello, I have a HTC and was wondering - without buying a Chinese sim card can I access wi-fi from my phone as it is when I enter the county? (I have no interest in phone calls or messages, just internet access)
I'm from Australia and will by travelling to China in January 2014

Yes, you can access to Wifi without buying a new card, but in China, people cannot find Wifi everywhere. If you want to access to Wifi, you need to check whether the place you stay have Wifi or not.
