do I need an invitation letter for renewal of an expired or used visa to china

We are building/buying a ship from Mawei shipyard in Fuzhou and we had a two entry six months visa to china last year.We made the second visit in december 2012. We need to go back for further inspection before the ship is delivered sometimes in march this year. Do we still require invitation letter or not
