updated information on Tourist Visa requirements

I am trying to book a trip to China in March. I can not find updated information on requirements for visa approval. Are you required to have health insurance to enter China? We will be visiting multiple cities in the course of 2 weeks including some camping outings. Do I need to buy all of our hotels and arrange all guides before I can submit my application??
Thanks!

Health insurance is not mandatory, but it is better if you have any. A single entry tourist visa is enough if you enter mainland China one time only. Hotel bookings for first few nights for the first destination city are enough for application and the round-trip ticket if you travel individually. If you travel through a travel agency, the itinerary and confirmation letter from them are enough.
