About:Baggage Allowance and Transportation

Checking in luggage in advance

The article says “If it is transported in advance, it will arrive on a later train." umm this doesn’t really make sense? I want to check an extra suitcase in from Beijing to Shanghai a day ahead of my actual travel, expecting it to be already there when I arrive. Please confirm or clarify if I can actually do this please.

Check with the rail ministry directly, which will offer the most exact info. Its hotline is 12306.

My Chinese host checked with the rail ministry. G and D class trains do not have baggage cars so one cannot check baggage in on them. There is no way to send luggage via another train. I sent my excess via China Post seamail back to Australia - not all that expensive anyway compared to airline charges for excess weight or a second item of luggage. Tks for the reply.
