help please!

I am an ESL teacher in Rizhao. I am going to be traveling alone for the most part of my spring festival experience as the school I work for is going to shut down. The closest city to me is Qingdao (I have already been) and I would love to travel around China during this time aside from Qingdao. Any suggestions on where I should go (preferably by rail as finances are tight) I heard Hainan is really gorgeous. Is this a good destination for Spring Festival? Any help would be appreciated. I am also open to meeting travel buddies and friends :-)
