As for your case, here is my suggestion:
1st day, you can visit the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in the morning. Then go to Yuexiu Park, where you can enjoy the Five-Ram Sculpture and Zhenhai Tower.
2nd day, I suggest you go and visit Temple of the Six Banyan Trees and Shamian Island. At Shamian Island, there are 150 buildings of European styles. You can also enjoy various restaurants.
3rd day, Qingping Market should be a good choice at the first place. There you can see you will see a vast collection of Chinese medicine, agricultural and sideline products. It is really a feast to your eyes. After that, you can wander along the Pearl River. A little later, you can take the Pearl River Cruise to have a overall look at the nightview of the city.
4th day, Chimelong Resort is suggested for you. You will find all kinds of entertaining items there. If you wish, you can spend a whole day in it. If you have time left, you can take the free shuttle of the resort to the Zoo, in which you can also go to the Ocean World.
5th day, for shopping, you can go to the well-known Shangxia Jiulu and Beijing Road.
