Generally it is easy to take subway in the city. You will find nearly all the signs are marked both in Chinese and English.

For your travel, hotels both near the Bund and People's Square can be ok, because of the convenient transport. Though, comparatively, you can view more fanscinating views near the Bund. In addition, hotels near Nanjing Road are also fine.

Generally the menus in Xian are written in Chinese, except some large or super restaurants. In the other two cities, it may be a little easier to find the English menus compared to Xian.
