About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Residence Permit Renewal

Hi! My Residence Permit will expire on 08 February 2013. What are the procedures to process the renewal of my residence permit. I am currently holding a Z visa (issued in my home country) and applied for Work Permit and Residence Permit with in 30 days upon arrival in China. Everything went well. Now, I have to renew everything again and have the following questions:

1. what are the steps and requirements to renew my work permit and residence permit?
2. My work permit will expire on January 31, 2013 and my residence permit will expire on February 8, 2013. When is the best time to start processing? Can I process it as early as now since the Chinese New Year is upcoming?
3. Do I need to go to the nearest police station to make necessary changes to records since i just renewed my passport (was issued a new passport number and change of my residence address and our company has moved to another office (still same company but the company just moved to another building)?
4. Do I need to have a physical examination again for the renewal?
5. What is the difference between Foreign Expert Certificate and Alien Work Permit? I only have Alien Work permit, a brown book that indicates my company, work contract validity etc.

Thank you very much!

Hi, you need to prepare following documents:
1. Resume Written by yourself (needs to be translated to Chinese if in a different language)
2. A copy of degree certificate (needs to be translated as well)
3. A copy of labor contract with the company
4. Employment Registration Form of Foreign Employees - fill in Chinese
5. Visa and residence permit application form - in Chinese as well
6. Two 2-inch photos
7. Passport
8. Your current Work Permit
You'd better get this done with help of your company HR, they know clearly how and when this processing should take. As I know, application should be lodged in a week before the expiration. You need to register at local police for sake of further application anyway. Physical check is not necessary.
Foreign Expert Certificate and Alien Work Permit are the same, but issued by different department for different work category, such as State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

Thank you very much for your feedback. In addition to my inquiry. Is Employment License necessary to process my work permit renewal? I was told that the company's employment license expired last July as it is only valid for 6 months and was not able to renew it yet. Is it mandatory to have it renewed first before we can proceed with the processing of my work permit renewal? If so, how long is the processing time for this? thank you very much!

I think so, but have no idea how long time it needed for renewal. You'd better contact your company for this directly.

Hello Kabayan,

Yes, your lucky that you have a visa. But to be safe you need to prepare a copy of (at least 6 months) medical certificTE done in China sometimes they asked it in PSB.
