Can I subsitute wearing long john to wearing a cotton t-shirt in Shanghai

What will the termperature be in Jan

You can either wear long john or cotton T-shirt. Anyway, warm clothes made of wool, fur and leather are strongly recommended since it will be cold with a low average temperature of 0~5C during Jan. When a cold snap hits Shanghai, the temperature may drop to -6 C.
