What kind of Visa do i need if i'm only doing a short study?

I am traveling to China for 25 days. I plan on being a tourist for 95% of the time i'm there, but the other 5% will be for a short psychology study. As a member of the physchology club at my small community college, my club and I decided to encourporate chinese students into a study about alturism in america vs. China. This will only take about 1-2 days. With this said, should I fill out the Tourist Visa or Student Visa?
