About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I arrived in China on a 6 month visa with my chinese wife who is a chinese national.

We had our marriage certificate authenticated by the DFAT in Australia submitted it with our visa application and was granted a 6 month L, we went to extend it at the PBS here and was told that the marriage certificate needed to be authenticated by the Chinese Consulate in Sydney Australia. This means we now have to send our original marriage certificate back to Australia with an application form etc., to the consulate in Australia. We have tried to ring them on the many numbers listed for them but get no one to talk only automated responses. When we applied for it through CVASC we were told granting the visa is acceptance of its validity. Now we find this is not the case. How do we extend the L here in China without sending our original marriage certificate back to Australia. We have one month before the it expires.

Have you get marriage registrated in China? or is the current marriage certificate issued in Australia?

It is an Australian marriage certificate and has been authenticated by the DFAT in Australia before I left to come to China on a 180 day visa L.

It would appear even though we had the visa issued by the CVASC it was not authenticated by the Chinese consulate in Sydney at the time this was issued.

The PSB requires the document be authenticated by the Consulate back in Australia to extend it.
This means we must register the documents from China back to Australia and give them a replied paid enevelope to post it back to us in China. (we do not know how much this will cost).
Given registered mail from Dandong to Sydney can be 10 days at the best or longer and it is a 4 working days to authenticate the documents and another 10 days or so back to China that is 24 days my current L expires on 13/01/2013.

So my wife and I fear it will expire before we can get the marriage certificate authenticated by the Chinese consulate in Sydney and extention here in china.

It is an australian marriage certificate. Authenticated by DFAT in Australia, now I must send the document back to Australia to have it authenticated by the Australian Consulate in Sydney and then sent back to me here in China before my existing visa expires.

The sending of the documents to Australia and back agauin will take at least 30 days at best.

Hi, you can try to explain this to the officers in PSB and ask for a one month L extension. BTW, never overstay in China.
