What material did they use to make a compass in china?

The first compass in China is called Sinan, which is made of a magnet spoon and a wooden plate under it.
Later, the wooden plate was replaced by many other materials such as thread, water and so on.

Adding on to that, one of the first compasses made in China was actually made with a lodestone point.

at first it was made of metal steal then later on it was made out of gunpowder

They use something point to put in something to find the direction.It helps us and people are still using it today.
