About:Chinese Embassy in Philippines

Under section 5, it says I can enter Shanghai for 48 hours without a visa on a New Zealand passport.

Can you please confirm this. I will purchase a Manila to Shanghai return ticket. Also, can I fly into Shanghai and then out of a different airport, say Hangzhou? Any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

The visa exemption for New Zealand passport holders in Shanghai is only under the condition that you are on a international flight and with a transit in Pudong or Hongqiao airport. You can't fly out of China from Hangzhou. If your final destination is Shanghai, then you will have to apply for a visa. In other words, if your itinerary is Manila-Shanghai-Manila, then you won't be qualified to enjoy the exemption; if your itinerary is Manila-Shanghai-Wellington, then you can enjoy the privilege.

Thank you Alice, can I fly Manila - Shanghai - Manila then? Also after re-reading the transit free visa option - I'm now not sure if I can actually leave the airport? Do you know if I can actually leave the airport as the transit G does not allow for passengers to leave the airport. I have emailed several consulates with these very same queries but thus far no-one has replied :(

Dear Mark, you need to apply for a visa if you fly Manila-Shnaghai-Manila. Becuase this is not a transit, but a visit, you should apply for a tourist visa L instead. Transit G is not apply to you.
