specific visa requirement

I am invited for WORKSHOP AT Nanjing Agric UNIVERSITY, MY letter of invitation was sent by mail. MY HOS DIRECTED ME TO APPLY FOR VISA with the letter. IS that acceptable for application. Kindly advise me on what to do to obtain it, the workshop is less than two weeks away.
