About:China Transit Visa

Do I need a visa to transfer through two airports in china on my way to Laos?

Hello. My name is John and I'm an American living in Korea. I am traveling to Lao over Christmas and will be flying through China on my way. I will be only transferring flights in the airports. I will not be leaving the airports. My question is: Do I need to get a visa, transit or nothing at all? My flight details are:

December 21st
Depart Busan Korea China Eastern Airlines
12:35 PM Kimhae (PUS)

Stop 1 Shanghai
1:20 PM Pudong International Airport (PVG) | Terminal 1
Change planes. Time between flights: 7hr 40min

Depart Shanghai China Eastern Airlines
9:00 PM Pudong International Airport (PVG)

Stop 2 Kunming
12:40 AM Kunming Airport (KMG)
Change planes. Time between flights: 12hr 50min

Hi John, visa is not required as the stopovers in both ways are within 24 hours. You can apply for a stay permit when you firstly stop at Shanghai airport (on your trip to Laos) and Kunming airport (return to Korea). This permit is free of charge.
