Shanghai: 24 hour visa on arrival?

Hello! I am a German living in Japan and spontanously want to visit a friend in Shanghai over the weekend. As I guess it normally takes 4 to 5 working days to apply for a visa and this would be too long in this case my question: Can I get it on arrival, when its just for Shanghai and a mere 24 to 30 hours (No stop-over or transit intended though...)?

Hi, with German passport, you are not required visa to Shanghai for 48 hours if in directly transit. Otherwise, you need to apply for a visa in advance. It can not be got upon arrival.
