What if you have overstayed and you are ready to pay the fine but still dont want to go back home.

can it really work or will you get expelled

If you hasn't overstayed for a long time, you won't be expelled after paying the fine, but you will be given a notice to leave China within a few days.

Why not apply for a new visa to stay in China legally?
