chinese visa in abu dhabi with british passport

I am staying in Abu Dhabi working have a British passport but not a UAE working residence permit want to visit Shanghai next month to see some friends for 2 weeks

So, you do not have a UAE resident visa? As I know, this is required for China visa application unless you are visa free to work and live in UAE.
