The hotel is just 20m away to the south of exit B of Gulou Dajie subway station. Therefore, from the hotel to Forbidden City and Tian'anmen Square, you can walk to Gulou Dajie Station to take subway line 2 to Fuxingmen and transfer to subway line 1 there to Tian'anmen West. Then it is easy for you to walk to Tian'anmen Square. The Forbidden city is just to the north of Tiananmen Square.
You can go to visit Badaling Great Wall. From the hotel, you can walk to Gulou Dajie Station to take subway line 2 only for one stop to Jishuitan (Exit A), and then walk to Deshengmen to take Bus No. 877, 919 or 880 to Badaling.
As for good shopping places, Xidan is good. You can take subway line 1 to Fuxingmen and transfer line 1 there to Xidan. Or you can continue to take subway line 1 and get off at Wangfujing which is a very famous shopping street.
