I understand L or D-visa holder is not allow to work in China butQ 1)  If happen to have a good job opportunity over-there, can L or D change to a Z?Q 2) are we allow to setup own small business for living?Q 3) know that foreigner must has min 1 year and above stay in china allow to purchase a house, can I alone buy house with L or D in marriage status to mainland chinese? (let's say I only given 30 days visit visa)?Q 4) re to Q3: If alone is not possible, how about join name with spouse?

If you get a job, you can change L to Z through agency. As I know, it can be done in HK by yourself either if you have invitation letter addressed to apply in HK.  You are allowed to setup business. You can not buy house alone if you are on L, you can consult with a lawyer for more information on this.
