How long is it valid for a single entry, or how it will work to apply 6 month multiple entry.

Whethe you will be granted with a visa depends on the documents youcan provide. A single entry one is valid for 3 months from the day of its issue. If you've never been to China before, I don't think you can get a multiple entry one.
